Clothes

You will need wellingtons, woollens, wind proofs and walking shoes. It is as well to be prepared, although the weather in summer can often be warm enough to strip down to shorts and T-shirts.

Food

If you have any special dietary requirements, take them with you. Otherwise just about all you need including meat, vegetables, fruit and general groceries can be bought in the shops in Tarbert. Equally wine and spirits can be purchased in Munro’s the general merchant in Tarbert. Wine tends to be more expensive than on the mainland. Stornoway now has 2 or 3 of the major supermarket chains.

Coal

Bags of coal can be bought at Munro`s shop in Tarbert. You are welcome to use any coal found in the shed, but please replace the approximate amount before you leave.

Insect Repellent

On still days in late summers the midges can be a nuisance, (although they are never as bad as they are on the Scottish mainland). As well as creams and lotions, smouldering coils are very effective. Veils are the latest anti-midge device, and are usually available in Tarbert.
