DISCOVER SCALPAY

The Isle of Scalpay, linked to Harris by a bridge, is home to a warm and close-knit community. Despite its small size, the island has two churches, a small fishing fleet, and a pontoon for visiting yachts.

Enjoy a memorable meal at the excellent North Harbour Bistro, known for its local seafood and island hospitality. On Wednesday evenings, you can often buy shellfish straight from Scalpay Shellfish boat in North Harbour — a true taste of Hebridean life.

Scalpay is rich in history and natural beauty. Follow the Heritage Trail to explore the island’s crofting landscape and end at Eilean Glas Lighthouse, one of the oldest in Scotland, standing proudly above the Atlantic since 1789.

Many islanders still speak Gaelic as well as English, and the community is known for its friendliness and quiet way of life. Visitors are asked to respect local customs — peaceful activities such as walking, fishing, or exploring are always welcome.
